French baroque polyphonic masses are preserved in three sorts of printed manuscript sources : separate parts, choir books, scores. A same mass known in various formats, each of them showing a particular picture of An analysis of the circumstances in which these different sources were helps one to understand their functions in baroque church music. This presents a fresh reading of these works by taking into account the sociological material modes of their composition, preservation, and diffusion. It also to unite the already known concept of " occult polychorality " with " induced scoring " in the performance of church baroque |
